In line with the mandate of the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Canada, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Montreal organized a cultural event marking the 100 years anniversary of the internationally renowned Egyptian filmmaker Youssef Chahine. In this context, the Cultural Office conducted extensive and continuous coordination with the management of the Montreal International African Film Festival (VUES D’AFRIQUE), which is considered one of the most prominent and longstanding film festivals in Canada and North America, and enjoys a distinguished international standing in supporting African cinema and fostering intercultural dialogue. These efforts aimed at incorporating the event within the program of its 42nd edition and defining the overall framework of the cinematic evening within the “Egyptian Day” activities.
Coordination also included communication with Youssef Chahine’s company to secure screening rights and select the most suitable film, in addition to collaboration with the ACMC Association in Montreal as a supporting partner to ensure full organizational integration. The Cultural Office developed a comprehensive concept for the event, which included the selection of the film Cairo Station as one of the director’s most iconic works, alongside the design of an honorary walkway showcasing his artistic journey through collection of photographs. The event also highlighted Egyptian cultural identity through the display of Pharaonic replicas and artworks, reflecting the depth and richness of Egypt’s civilization.
In an effort to encourage public engagement, the Bureau purchased and offered 30 cinema tickets as complimentary invitations to attend the screening. This initiative aimed to boost attendance and provide broader access for diverse audiences, thereby enhancing Egypt’s cultural presence on the international stage. These efforts culminated in a high-level attendance, as the event was honored by the presence of H.E. Ambassador Nabil Mekky, Consul General of Egypt in Montreal, accompanied by his spouse, along with a number of Arab consuls, members of the Egyptian and Arab communities, and representatives of Canadian society.
في إطار تكليف سفارة جمهورية مصر العربية في كندا لمكتب مصر للعلاقات الثقافية والتعليمية بمونتريال بتنظيم فعالية ثقافية احتفالًا بمرور مائة عام على ميلاد المخرج المصري العالمي يوسف شاهين، قام المكتب الثقافي بإجراء سلسلة من الاتصالات المكثفة والمستمرة مع إدارة المهرجان الأفريقي للسينما بمونتريال، الذي يُعد من أبرز وأعرق المهرجانات السينمائية في كندا وأمريكا الشمالية، ويحظى بمكانة دولية مرموقة على صعيد دعم السينما الأفريقية وتعزيز الحوار الثقافي بين الشعوب، وذلك بهدف الاتفاق على إدراج الفعالية ضمن برنامج دورته الثانية والأربعين، وتحديد الإطار العام للأمسية السينمائية ضمن فعاليات “اليوم المصري” . كما شمل التنسيق التواصل مع شركة يوسف شاهين للحصول على حقوق عرض الفيلم واختيار العمل الأنسب، فضلًا عن التنسيق مع جمعية ميلودي بمونتريال كشريك داعم لضمان تحقيق التكامل التنظيمي للفعالية
وقد أعدّ المكتب الثقافي تصورًا متكاملًا للفعالية، تضمن اختيار فيلم باب الحديد (محطة مصر) باعتباره من أبرز أعمال المخرج الراحل، إلى جانب تصميم ممر شرفي يبرز مسيرته الفنية من خلال مجموعة منتقاة من الصور. كما تم التخطيط لإبراز الهوية الثقافية المصرية عبر عرض لوحات ومستنسخات فرعونية، بما يعكس عمق الحضارة المصرية وتنوعها. وفي إطار دعم المشاركة الجماهيرية، قام المكتب بشراء وتقديم عدد (30) تذكرة لحضور عرض الفيلم كهدية، في مبادرة تهدف إلى تعزيز الإقبال على الفعالية، وإتاحة الفرصة لشريحة أوسع من الجمهور للمشاركة، بما يسهم في تعزيز الحضور الثقافي المصري على الساحة الدولية
وقد تُوّجت هذه الجهود بحضور رفيع المستوى، حيث شرّف الحفل سعادة السفير نبيل مكي، قنصل عام جمهورية مصر العربية في مونتريال، والسيدة قرينته، إلى جانب عدد من قناصل الدول العربية، وأبناء الجالية المصرية والعربية، فضلًا عن ممثلين عن المجتمع الكندي
