Arab Henna Night in Montreal

Under the patronage of the Egyptian Consulate General in Montreal, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Montreal, in cooperation with the SPDI Association, organized an event entitled “Arab Henna Night.” The event comes within the framework of ongoing efforts to preserve Arab intangible cultural heritage, strengthen cultural identity, and create an interactive social space for the Arab community in Montreal. The event aimed to highlight the cultural diversity of the Arab world and to revive henna traditions in Arab wedding celebrations, as one of the most important symbols associated with marriage and joy in Arab societies. This follows the inscription of henna traditions on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2024 as a shared heritage element among 16 Arab countries, including Egypt.

The event also sought to present a live experience reflecting the diversity of customs and traditions related to henna across different Arab countries. Henna Day is not only a festive occasion, but also a platform for cultural exchange, transmitting heritage to younger generations, and introducing non-Arab audiences to the depth and richness of Arab culture. The Egyptian Cultural Bureau in Montreal extends its sincere thanks and appreciation to the participating Arab countries for their contributions in showcasing the richness and diversity of Arab cultural heritage, and for the performances and presentations that reflected a strong spirit of cooperation and shared identity. Special thanks are also extended to Plaza Management Group for hosting the event and providing the venue and logistical support that contributed to its outstanding success. تحت رعاية القنصلية العامة المصرية بمونتريال، نظم مكتب مصر للعلاقات الثقافية والتعليمية بمونتريال، بالتعاون مع جمعية الخدمات العامة لإدماج المهاجرين، فعالية بعنوان “ليلة حنّة عربية”، وذلك في إطار الجهود الرامية إلى الحفاظ على التراث العربي غير المادي، وتعزيز الهوية والانتماء الثقافي، وخلق مساحة اجتماعية تفاعلية لأبناء الجالية العربية في مونتريال. هدفت الفعالية إلى إبراز التنوع الثقافي في العالم العربي، وإحياء طقوس الحنّة في الأفراح العربية بوصفها من أهم الرموز المرتبطة بالزواج والبهجة في المجتمعات العربية. ويأتي ذلك في ضوء إدراج طقوس الحنّة على قائمة اليونسكو للتراث الثقافي غير المادي للإنسانية عام 2024، كعنصر تراثي مشترك بين 16 دولة عربية، من بينها مصر

كما سعت الفعالية إلى تقديم تجربة حيّة تعكس تنوّع العادات والتقاليد المرتبطة بالحنّة في مختلف البلدان العربية. ولا يقتصر يوم الحنّة على الجانب الاحتفالي فحسب، بل يُعد مساحة للتلاقي الثقافي ونقل التراث إلى الأجيال الجديدة، وتعريف الجمهور غير العربي بعمق الثقافة العربية وثرائها. ويتقدم المكتب الثقافي المصري بمونتريال بخالص الشكر والتقدير للدول العربية المشاركة في الاحتفالية على مساهمتها في إبراز ثراء وتنوع التراث الثقافي العربي، وما قدمته من عروض ومشاركات عكست روح التعاون والانتماء المشترك. كما يتوجه بالشكر الخاص إلى مجموعة بلازا على استضافة الاحتفالية وتوفير المكان والدعم اللوجستي اللازم، مما أسهم في خروج الحدث بصورة متميزة تليق بقيمة التراث العربي. ويعرب المكتب كذلك عن خالص امتنانه وتقديره لجميع الحضور على مشاركتهم وتفاعلهم، الذي كان له بالغ الأثر في إنجاح الفعالية وإضفاء أجواء من الدفء والاحتفاء بالتراث العربي
