In line with the directives of Professor Dr. Abdelaziz Konsowa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Culture, and Professor Dr. Ghada Abdel Bari, Head of the Cultural Affairs and Missions Sector, to expand academic partnerships with Canadian universities, Professor Dr. Ahmed Gaber, Cultural Attaché and Director of the Educational Mission in Canada, signed an agreement with the University of Waterloo. The agreement was signed at the University of Waterloo in Waterloo on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

On behalf of the University of Waterloo, the agreement was signed by Professor Dr. Thomas Duever, Interim Vice-President, Academic and Provost, and Professor Dr. Justin Wan, Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs. The signing was attended by deans and representatives from the Faculties of Engineering, Pharmacy, and Computer Science, as well as other university representatives.

The agreement enables Egyptian students pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees to pay domestic tuition fees instead of international tuition fees, helping reduce the cost of study and expand access to the University’s graduate programs.

Following the signing, the two sides discussed opportunities to develop joint academic and pathway programs between the University of Waterloo and Egyptian universities; summer training, internships, and short-term academic experiences for students; and potential collaborative master’s and PhD programs, as well as broader cooperation in education and research.
