In line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s direction to strengthen connections with Egyptian scholars living in Canada, the Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Montreal and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau held a ceremony to honour Professor Nabil Esmail. The tribute recognized his outstanding contributions to academia and research, as well as his distinguished career in engineering education.
Professor Esmail served as Dean of Concordia University’s Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science from 1997 to 2008. He also served as the founding Chair of the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. His research spans several areas of engineering, and he has published more than 160 scientific works. He is a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and a recipient of Concordia University’s Academic Leadership Award.
The ceremony was held at the official residence at the joint invitation of His Excellency Ambassador Nabil Mekki, Consul General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Montreal, and Professor Ahmed Gaber, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Educational Mission in Canada. Among those attending were Consul Mohamed Atef; Sherif Erfan, Commercial Counselor; Dr. Mourad Debbabi, Dean of Concordia’s Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science; and Professor Muthukumaran Packirisamy, Chair of the School’s Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Aerospace Engineering. A number of Egyptian scholars and academics from Concordia and McGill universities also attended, along with Professor Esmail’s family.
Ambassador Mekki welcomed the guests, thanked them for accepting the invitation, and praised Professor Esmail’s contributions and distinguished career. Professor Gaber also welcomed those in attendance and expressed his appreciation for Professor Esmail’s contributions to academia, research and university leadership. He noted that Professor Esmail is an inspiring example for Egyptian scholars in Canada.
At the end of the ceremony, Professor Esmail was presented with the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau’s commemorative shield in recognition of his career and contributions. The event took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere, reflecting the high regard in which Professor Esmail is held by his colleagues and the Egyptian community in Canada.

وتولّى الدكتور نبيل إسماعيل عمادة كلية الهندسة وعلوم الحاسب بجامعة كونكورديا من عام 1997 إلى عام 2008، كما شغل منصب الرئيس المؤسس لقسم الهندسة الكيميائية بجامعة ساسكاتشوان. وتمتد إسهاماته البحثية إلى مجالات هندسية متعددة، وله أكثر من 160 بحثًا ومنشورًا علميًا. وهو زميل الأكاديمية الكندية للهندسة، وحاصل على جائزة القيادة الأكاديمية من جامعة كونكورديا
وأُقيم الحفل بدار السكن بدعوة مشتركة من سعادة السفير نبيل مكي، القنصل العام لجمهورية مصر العربية في مونتريال، والأستاذ الدكتور أحمد جابر، المستشار الثقافي ومدير البعثة التعليمية في كندا. وحضر الحفل القنصل محمد عاطف، والسيد شريف عرفان، المستشار التجاري، والدكتور مراد دبّابي، عميد كلية جينا كودي للهندسة وعلوم الحاسب بجامعة كونكورديا، والأستاذ الدكتور موثوكوماران باكيريسامي، رئيس قسم الهندسة الميكانيكية والصناعية وعلوم الطيران والفضاء بالكلية، إلى جانب عدد من العلماء والأكاديميين المصريين بجامعتي كونكورديا ومكجيل. كما شاركت أسرة الدكتور نبيل إسماعيل في الاحتفال
ورحب سعادة السفير نبيل مكي بالحضور، وشكرهم على تلبية الدعوة، مشيدًا بإسهامات الدكتور نبيل ومسيرته المتميزة. كما رحب الأستاذ الدكتور أحمد جابر بالحضور، وأعرب عن تقديره لعطاء الدكتور نبيل الأكاديمي والبحثي والإداري، مؤكدًا أنه نموذج مشرف للعلماء المصريين في كندا
وفي ختام الحفل، قُدّم إلى الأستاذ الدكتور نبيل إسماعيل درع مكتب مصر للعلاقات الثقافية والتعليمية، تقديرًا لمسيرته وإسهاماته. وقد سادت الاحتفال أجواء ودية عكست ما يحظى به الدكتور نبيل من تقدير واعتزاز بين زملائه وأفراد الجالية المصرية في مونتريال
